www.cs.hmc.edu/~dodds/Abroad/programs.html Professor Dodds, HMC, Study Abroad References provides a by-country list of programs that support study abroad with links to their web sites.

www.arcadia.edu/cea Arcadia University Center for Education Abroad web site provides information on the various programs offered by this Center as well as application material.

www.isabutler.org Butler University Institute for Study Abroad web site provides information on the various programs offered by this institute as well as application material.

www.ciee.org Council on International Educational Exchange web site provides information on their programs for study and work abroad.

www.embassy.org/embassies/index.html Provides links to the web sites of foreign embassies in Washington, DC, or addresses for embassies which do not have web sites. Sites of individual countries provide official information about visas, cultural exchanges and more.

www.state.gov US Department of State web site. Provides essential help from the U.S. government for everything from travel safety advisories to crisis assistance for US citizens abroad to contact information for all US embassies and consulates abroad.

www.goabroad.com By Troy Peden. A comprehensive and up-to-date web site with excellent search provisions. Search possible by country, subject or both. Provides addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses for all programs. One of the best sites for those looking for a broad range of education abroad options.

www.iiepassport.org/options Institute of International Education Passport is a user-friendly search engine which lets you check off the program characteristics in which your interested such as location, language of instruction, etc.

www.petersons.com/stdyabrd/us.html Peterson's web site database lacks the detail of their hard copy Study Abroad books. Information limited to location and academic subjects. Hard copy book is available in the HMC Office of Career Services, Platt Campus Center.

www.studyabroad.com By Mark Landon. Comprehensive database lists study abroad programs as well as special databases for language courses and experiential programs. Information limited to location and academic subjects. Provides addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses for all programs.

www.studyabroad.com/handbook/handbook.html By Bill Hoffa. Includes the following topics: things to do before you go, documents (passports, visas, required immunizations, student ID card, etc), exploring cultural differences, safety and security, legalities and coping with emergencies, pre-departure checklist and more.

www.transitionsabroad.com Transitions Abroad magazine is unique in its coverage of all education abroad options, from study and work abroad to educational travel. Online version includes vast amouns of information such as annotated guides to resources, country-by-country listings of programs for study, work, internships, volunteering, language study, living abroad and more.

www.usc.edu/globaled/wwcu World Wide Colleges and Universities web site. Links to university and international office web sites, organized country-by-country, provided by USC Global for Global Education, by Gary Rhodes. May be especially useful for students looking for direct-enrollment options.

www.austudies.org/aeo Australian Education Office (AEO) web site. Officially-sponsored web site includes listings of study abroad programs (including US-sponsored) at Australian universities. Large number of links to related sites.

www.amscan.org/study.htm American-Scandinavian Foundation web site includes a comprehensive directory of study, language and work abroad programs in all the Scandinavian countries, including US-sponsored programs.

www.studyintheuk.org British Council USA-Study in the UK web site. Comprehensive official information on study, scholarships, internships and working as a student in the United Kingdom.

www.niss.ac.uk/education/butex British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association (BUTEX) web site. Provides directories of undergraduate and graduate study programs in the UK, which include most (but not all) UK universities. Does not include US-sponsored programs.

www.niss.ac.uk National Information Services & Systems, UK. This site provides comprehensive information about higher education in the UK, including official rankings of universities and departments. See "Colleges and Universities" section.

www.thesis.co.uk Times Higher Education Supplement. The London Times HES publishes official rankings of British universities. Click on ENTER, then THESIS+, then "statistics" or "student."

www.amideast.org/programs/study AMIDEAST's Guide to Study Abroad by America-Mideast Educational & Training Services. Web site of this non-profit organization includes a database of study abroad programs, perhaps the most complete listing of study abroad programs in the Middle East. Includes US-sponsored programs.

www.usc.edu/globaled/safeti/newsletter.html A newsletter produced through SAFETI (Safety Abroad First - Educational Travel Information) funds provided by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education. Includes articles and a "FAQ" for Parents section.

www.cdc.gov/travel/trtext.htm Centers for Disease Control, CDC Travel Information. Official US government information about health conditions worldwide, including recommendations for immunizations and locations of travel clinics.

www.customs.ustreas.gov/travel/trtext.htm US Customs Office, Traveler Information. Information on customs restrictions and duty fees on items brought into the US by travelers, including the publication Know Before You Go.

www.asirt.org Association for Safe International Road Travel. Non-profit organization provides information worldwide on the risks of travel by road.

www.ciee.org/Isp/safety/healthcheck.htm Health Check for Study, Work and Travel Abroad. A checklist for an individual assessment of health considerations before going abroad, produced in association with CIEE and NAFSA.

www.sentex.net/~iamat International Association for Medical Assistance to Travellers (IAMAT) web site. Non-profit organization can assist in locating English-speaking physicians worldwide.

www.medicineplanet.com MedicinePlanet.com web site has information on health, safety and more, which can be brought up for individual countries. Site claims to use information from the CDC, US State Department, World Health Organization, and medical journals.

Passports & Visas:

US government site gives complete information and downloadable applications for US citizens to apply for a passport. A passport is required travel to nearly all countries. First-time applicants will have to apply in person an officially-designated places (listed in http://travel.state.gov/passport_easy.html) Allow at least a month for processing, though expedited processing (within 10 business days) is possible at extra cost (see http://travel.state.gov/passport_expedite.html)

http://travel.state.gov/foreignentryreqs.html US State Department's Survey of Foreign Entry Requirements provides visa information for US citizens traveling as tourists. Visas may not always be necessary for US citizens traveling as tourists, but many countries do require visas for tourists. Visas usually are required for study, work or stays longer than a few months.

www.embassy.org/embassies/index.html The Electronic Embassy web site links to foreign embassies in the US. You can only obtain a visa from the embassy or consulate of the country of your destination, and must do so before entering that country. Look under categories such as "travel", "visas" or "consular section" to find visa requirements.

Student ID Cards

www.counciltravel.com/idcards Council Travel-Cards Division. Council Travel is the sole authorized US distributor of the International Student Identity Card (ISIC). ID card applications are available online. These cards bring discounts on airfares, discounts abroad, and have additional benefits such as an emergency assistance service.

www.aesu.com AESU Travel is a student travel agency which specializes in student-rate airfares, rail passes, and other products for student travelers, particularly for European destinations.

www.counciltravel.com Council Travel is a large student travel agency with branches worldwide specializing in student-rate airfares, rail passes, and other products for student travelers. Affiliated with the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE).

www.statravel.com STA Travel is a large student travel agency with branches worldwide, specializing in student-rate airfares, rail passes and other products for student travelers.

www.travelocity.com Travelocity web site sponsored by the Sabre Company-which provides the databases used by travel agents-assists in finding the cheapest airfare.

www.dertravel.com DER Travel Services is the website of a major US provider of Eurail passes and provides information about point-to-point tickets and rail schedules in addition to information about Eurail and regional or country rail passes. The affiliated German Rail's web site gives extensive information on train schedules, http://bahn.hafas.de/english.htm.

http://mercurio.iet.unipi.it/misc/timetabl.html European National Railways and timetables web site provides links to the WWW servers of the European national railways, to railfan pages with lots of information on a national railway, and to on-line timetables and travel planners.

www.raileurope.com Rail Europe is a web site of a major US provider of Eurail passes and provides information about point-to-point tickets and rail schedules, in addition to information about Eurail and regional or country rail passes.

www.routesinternational.com Routes International site provides links worldwide for all modes of transportation.

Currency Converters:

www.oanda.com/convert/classic The Oanda currency converter allows for factoring in different rates typical of credit card and cash exchanges.

www.xe.net/ucc Universal (Xenon) currency converter web site.

Maps:

www.mapquest.com MapQuest web site. Click on "Maps" to be able to choose country, city and street maps worldwide. Site is fast and has a convenient zoom feature.

www.nationalgeographic.com/maps National Geographic's Map Machine offers maps, satellite images and basic facts, but not street maps.
